Sports massage is an excellent way to speed up recovery during sports training as well as following an injury. It has a number of benefits including physical, physiological and psychological improvement. Current research shows that sports massage can help with the following:
Reducing anxiety – massage induces relaxation which in turn reduces anxiety
Invigoration/increased energy – massage can leave you feeling invigorated and with more energy. This is particularly useful before an event.
Pain reduction – Massage helps reduce tension and releases the bodies endorphins, influencing our pain perception.
Relaxation – Muscles relax through heat generated, circulation and stretching.
CBT, or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, has been proven to help treat a wide range of emotional and physical health conditions in adults, young people and children. CBT looks at how we think about a situation and how this affects the way we act. Our actions can affect how we think and feel and this links to the way our body feels.
During times of mental distress, people think differently about themselves and what happens to them, meaning thoughts can become negative and unhelpful. This can worsen how a person feels and in turn, they may then behave in a way that prolongs their distress.
CBT practitioners help each person identify and change their negative thinking and unhelpful behaviour. In doing this, the result is often a major improvement in how a person feels and lives.
Running is one of the easiest, least expensive and popular forms of exercise out there. Because of this, there are now reported to be over 2 million people in the UK running at least once a week.
If you are a runner, whether you are looking to run your first 5km or already a seasoned marathon runner, our running assessments can advise you on the best ways to maintain an efficient and injury-free running career.
Your running assessment will incorporate a full review of your sporting history, including any previous/current injuries as well as your goals. It centres around a comprehensive musculoskeletal assessment that helps identify key areas of tissue or joint restriction, weakness and muscle imbalances that can adversely affect running form and performance. Your gait is then recorded on a treadmill and analysed with video analysis. The outcome of the assessment will allow us to determine the best corrective exercises and advice for you.
